First off guys as a Canadian I'm going to start this off with a "SORRY" but this gin tastes like ass!! I fell for the hype because I'm a Ryan Reynolds fan (always support your fellow Canadians unless they are Avril Lavigne, Chad Kroeger or Justin Bieber...all truely terrible....just sayin') I was always a whiskey drinker due to my Windsor heritage & my great-grandmother being a bootlegger. As a now reformed whiskey drinker (due to mad heartburn) I was excited to hear that it didn't have that strong juniper taste. I even made an excuse for a Milestones restaurant with "maybe" adding too much orange bitters to their "The Ryan Reynolds" martini when it wasn't that great....but when actually tried on its own; TERRIBLE. I was so disappointed. Truely the best gins are THE BOTANIST or if you're going Canadian; GEORGIAN BAY GIN honestly.....

shannon taylor Hmmm, thanks for your insight on this Shanon. It’s a shame you didn’t like it. It’s not for everyone and it certainly is different. I’m a big fan of everything Canada though so I will definitely try to get hold of some Georgian Bay! 👍😊

Gin on the rocks is what I call a "lazy man's martini." Sure you can fill a shaker full of ice, add gin and vermouth (optional), stir for a minute or so, strain into a chilled martini glass (add citrus or olives or onions). I enjoy doing that when I have the time. Otherwise, and especially after a long day, just take a short tumbler, add 2 cubes, a few ounces of gin and you're off to the races. I wouldn't mind hearing you reviews at some point on Ampersand (Canada) and Scapegrace Gold (New Zealand). You're doing yeoman's service for gin lovers around the world. Keep up the good work. Cheers!

Weird question, but could you do a review video of tonic waters? I love tonic water alone, since I'm not a drinker, and I have tried several but would love to find a high quality tonic to try. Plus I suppose you need good tonic for a Gin and *Tonic* so it would be cool to hear your thoughts.

Bobby you're a LEGEND and I love your videos as much as I love my gin. I went out and bought this one purely on the back of this review but OMG! I've never been so disappointed in a Gin in all my life :( This is the most flavourless, drab, and ordinary gin I have ever tried and is an absolute RIP OFF even at the reduced price of £28! What were you thinking? I can only assume that this gin is successful due to clever marketing! This is to Gin what 'Haig Club" is to Whiskey . . . . i.e. purely AWFUL!!! I (unlike you) love a good gin neat, but unfortunately neat, or with a great tonic, this simply doesn't pass muster :( :(

I really had to dislike the video. You're doing a review of a beverage it should be completely undiluted. I like your energy though. I like that you covered some of the history of the company, but then you went and poured some other liquid into the product you're reviewing. That makes no sense.

  60. stellorclan

    stellorclan3 meses atrás

Canada, I'm with you on this, it should be with an ice cube at most. Bulldog is my go-to, Boodles for more citrus. Since I ran across it, Sipsmith is my favorite. Over here it's the $35 bottle, and Aviation is less (because it is local). The flavor that you can't pin down is too much anise, like those little rectangular candies someone's great-aunt always had around and we thought as kids worse than cough medicine.

Happily Ham I’m sorry you didn’t like my video but thank you for your comment. It’s always good to receive criticism as that’s how we learn. I’m guessing you’re from the US but apologies if I’m wrong. Here in the UK, gin is almost always enjoyed with tonic and it is primarily London dry style. This was the first time I had encountered an American gin so I assumed that the same applied. It did taste very different to usual so what you’re saying makes perfect sense and I thank you for pointing it out. I’d like to make another video where I try it neat as you suggest. I’d like to address this issue and talk about the difference between London dry and American gin. Would you mind if I referenced you in the video? All the best Bobby 👍

  67. No Nonsense Gin Reviews

No Nonsense Gin Reviews7 meses atrás

alwayslikeaboss It’s a good point and a couple of people have mentioned this. Generally speaking, I think it’s more of a whiskey thing as you say. Everyone is different but I find that tonic releases the flavours of the gin which enables me to enjoy and identify them in a way that I just can’t with neat gin. I was speaking with a bar and cocktail consultant yesterday who says that when they drink neat gin, they always add a spot of water! Again she says that this is to release the aromas and flavours. Everyone is different though so if you can take neat gin then I’m very impressed! 👍😊
